Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bags

Product FAQs

How long does it take for a Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag to empty?

The time it typically takes for a Treegator® Original to empty is approximately 5 to 9 hours. This time may vary slightly depending on weather conditions, soil and tree types, etc.

Can I adjust the drip time on a Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag?

The water release rates cannot be adjusted on a Treegator®. Treegator® Slow-Release Watering Bags are designed to provide deep water saturation in the least amount of time with no run-off or evaporation.

Where does the water release from on a Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag?

On a Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag, there are 2 water release holes - one on each of bottom corners on the front of the bag, just behind the folds.

Should a Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag be left on a tree or shrub when not in use?

A Treegator® Slow-Release Watering Bag is designed for temporary use, providing an efficient and effective way to water newly planted tree needed. To maximize the product lifespan, it is recommended to empty any remaining water and remove the bags when they are not in use, especially during the winter months.

Can additives such as fertilizers or nutrients be added to a Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag?

Yes. Additives such as liquid or water soluble fertilizers, stimulants, or nutrients can be added to a Treegator® Slow-Release Watering Bags.

To avoid any clogging issues, it is strongly recommended that the additives be pre-mixed in a separate container, and then added to the bag after filling to 1/4 capacity with clean water.

Why doesn't a Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag need to be filled every day?

A Treegator® Slow-Release Watering Bag delivers water deep into the soil without runoff, ensuring a thorough saturation every time. This creates a concentration of moisture throughout the soil profile that can sustain your new tree or shrub for several days. Allowing the soil to partially dry out between deep watering sessions encourages healthy, deep root growth.

How To Install and Fill a Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag

Treegator® Original Troubleshooting

Treegator® Original Slow-Release Watering Bag not emptying properly? Follow these steps...

  1. Follow Proper Fill Instructions:
Make sure you're following the step-by-step fill instructions on the back of the product tag. Key steps include filling the bag with clean water and gently lifting the straps while filling it to 1/4 full.

  2. Reset your Bag:
If your Treegator® Original has been stationary for a while or wasn’t filled correctly, it might need a reset: Empty the bag, or if it will not fully drain, unzip it carefully (ask for help to avoid damaging the zippers), and let the water out. Once empty, lay the bag flat and smooth out any wrinkles or kinks.

  3. Check for Clogs:
If resetting doesn’t work, check the drip holes at the bottom corners of the bag. If they’re clogged, clean them with a damp cloth or paper towel.

  4. Clear Blockages:
If cleaning doesn’t help, use the straight end of a paperclip to gently clear any debris from the small water release holes. The holes are located just behind the folds at the bottom corners of the bag (one at each corner)
